Not Falling Apart Yet!

I thought I might give you all an update on how my knees are holding up. After a few weeks, they seem to be mostly back to normal (of course, normal still means an old meniscus tear and ever dwindling cartilage). The knee that I threw out while walking across the room is feeling better, but will start to ache slightly if I'm on my feet for too long. I have begun to ease my knees back into working out after about 3-4 weeks off and they are holding up much better than I anticipated. I do have to modify some movements if I feel pain, and my left knee makes a weird clicking sound during the workout, but there's no massive pain after the workout, which tells me that they are handling the movements fairly well (despite the clicking).

I am enjoying getting back into my workouts again and John has begun to join me (he jogs on the treadmill while I do my video). I've been mostly doing Jillian Michaels videos (the mean lady from NBC's The Biggest Loser) and have been impressed as to how good they make me feel and how quickly my body is responding. But against my better judgement last night, I decided to start one of her Level 2 videos. Don't get me wrong - I think it was good for my muscles, but my asthma had a lot of trouble keeping up. I had to take frequent breaks to catch my breath, but I know that I still got a decent workout in because EVERYTHING hurts today. I mean everything. Even my toes. I'm just lucky I'm one of those weird people who likes the after-workout pain (memories of dance training). It makes me want to keep going!

Thanks for the prayers and the checking in to see how my joints are holding up. Hopefully I can avoid getting any more knee owies for a while!

Don't Drink That!!

Not all the time but many times when the boys take a bath, the dog joins them. That may sound strange, but Buster is quite small and enjoys bathing with Aiden and Nathan. He sits ever so quietly as the boys pour water over him and lather him up with doggie shampoo. Bathtime is a bonding time for Buster and the boys.

Buster hadn't had a bath in a few weeks (ew) and when he came upstairs as the boys were in the tub, we let him hop on in. After a good old scrubbing, we got him out, dried him off, and sent him back downstairs. My back was turned for just a minute and as I turned back around to face the tub, I see my oldest....holding up a bath bucket....full of the doggy bath water....pouring it into his mouth!! "DON'T DRINK THE DOG BATH WATER!!!!"

Sweet goodness. The things I shouldn't have to say.

How Rude

As I was trying to organize the office today, I ended up sitting in a legs-crossed position while sorting and filing paperwork for nearly two hours without moving. As you know, my knees have not been at their best for the past few weeks. As I tried to finally get up, one of my knees locked up and I wasn't able to fully extend it in order to walk.

We had to make our way downstairs for dinner and as I was limping down the stairs I hear my dear husband say, "You're going to fall and die and I'm not going to help you". As I was about to turn around and tell him that while that may be true, it's a little rude to actually say it, he clarified that he was talking to one of our cats who was sitting in an open window, pressed against the screen.

I think he's lying. :^)

The exchange gave us both a good laugh. It's moments like these that make me appreciate how comfortable we are with sassy banter.

A song to hold you over

I promise we're alive. Things have been crazy busy and I'm feeling all sorts of rushed to get certain things done before the school year starts. I'll update soon, but until then, I'll leave you with a little song that Aiden made up as he was creating aliens out of Legos. Enjoy. :^)

"We are the two-headed aliens. We're going to break the earth apart. The earth is a puzzle, and right now it's put together, but not after we've hit it with our dart!"
