One more visit

We are certainly seeing a lot of our pediatrician lately! I guess it's that time of year. Last week, we were in on Monday for a flu shot, Tuesday for a head bump, and then we were in again today for an eye infection.

Nathan has had a cold since Wednesday of last week and it's been fairly rough on us. He had a fever from Wednesday night to Saturday morning and woke up Monday morning with a very pink and watery eye. I decided to leave it and see if it went away on it's own, but he awoke this morning with his eye so red, it looked bloody. So, I took John to work in anticipation of another doctor visit. Aren't I a smart one?

When the doctor came into the exam room, he said, "That's an impressive eye!". He also checked Nathan's ears and found that Nathan had been suffering from an ear infection over the past few days, but it was on it's way out, so no antibiotics were needed at this point. I was praised for dealing with an ear infection "the old fashioned way" (I'm assuming meaning plain old love and rest) and letting it heal itself without meds. I remembered that over the past year or so, pediaticians have been cutting back on how often they prescibe antibiotics for ear infections with the findings that they were being over-used, causing the infections to become immune. However, I had no idea that Nathan had an ear infection and probably would have brought him in if I knew. Oh well. He's fine!
We were prescribed an eye ointment and that's been a real treat trying to get Nathan to hold still to apply it. His eye looks so awful, but it doesn't seem to be bothering him quite as much as it did yesterday. I just hope it will look a little better by Thursday, so all our Thanksgiving photos aren't filled with a bloody-eyed baby.

Now, if we can all just get rid of this lingering cold..... :^)

New words!

Just this weekend, Nathan learned two new words! He was already saying "dada", "mama", "baby", and "ba" (bath). He did actually say "Aiden" about two weeks ago, but hasn't said it since, so I'm not counting it yet! So, as of today, his two new words are: "bread" (he says it very clearly!), and "po-tat" (potato). He thinks it soooo funny when we say it back to him. Hopefully we can get the video camera all charged up with a new tape so we have proof!

Silly Aiden!

Nathan was very sick today and wanted to do nothing except nurse and sleep in my lap, so we spent most of the day on the couch watching TV. WGN shows reruns of America's Funniest Home Videos at 2pm and it's one of Aiden's favorite shows, so we were watching that. It had been on, oh, probably 40 minutes when it came back from commercial and the host walks into camera view from behind a screen. As he does this, Aiden belts out, "TOM BERGERON!!" in the announcer-type voice. I seriously laughed so hard, I was crying. He really cracks me up sometimes.
